Label Design + Concept
For Midnight Fang, a stout from Coastal Campus Brewing, the label design was guided by a moody West Coast aesthetic. I leaned into a deep, atmospheric color palette—rich midnight purples, cool blues, and soft pinks—that evoke the rugged coastlines and misty forests of the Pacific Northwest. The layout balances negative space and bold design elements to give the can a premium yet approachable feel. Typography and label placement were carefully considered to ensure readability while complementing the visual flow of the design. The result is a label that feels rooted in nature, designed to stand out on shelves while staying true to the brewery’s coastal identity.
Illustration
The centerpiece of the Midnight Fang label is a multi-layered bear illustration created entirely in Procreate. I approached the illustration with a stylized, outlined look, building up layers of color fills to create depth and mood. The palette shifts from deep blues to purples and soft pinks, creating a dreamlike, twilight atmosphere that aligns with the name “Midnight Fang.”
Each color layer was carefully masked to emphasize the contours and form of the bear without overcomplicating the visual. This layered approach not only adds dimension but also brings a sense of movement and energy to the can, reinforcing the bold personality of the stout it represents. The final illustration feels both wild and controlled—an ideal match for a brand rooted in the West Coast and built for adventurous drinkers.
